Limited Stay Permit in Indonesia
KITAS (Kartu izin Tinggal Terbatas) is a Limited Stay Permit that must be owned by foreign citizens who want to live in Indonesia legally.
KITAS are classified into many indexes based on their purpose. As a foreign worker or foreign investor, you can use some of the following indexes:
KITAS in Indonesia has several other terms that may be more familiar, such as:
WORKING KITAS
=
WORKING VISA
/
WORK PERMIT
INVESTOR KITAS
=
INVESTOR VITAS
/
INVESTOR VISA
Validity Period
Each Kitas index has a different validity period. But in general, the validity period of KITAS for Workers (C-312) in one period is 6 months and 12 months.
For the Investor KITAS, it is valid for 1 year for index C-313 and 2 years for index C-314. Worry not, you can easily extend your KITAS before the validity period expires
Before you apply for an Indonesian KITAS, you must have a sponsorship letter from a registered company in Indonesia (either PT PMDN or PT PMA). After that, you can apply for a KITAS with several procedures such as:
First, must apply for the recommendations from the BKPM (Badan Koordinator Penanaman Modal or Investment Coordinating Board), before applying for a Limited Stay Visa (VITAS or Telex Visa) and Limited Stay Permit (ITAS).
After having a recommendation from BKPM, you can apply to the Kemnaker (Ministry of Manpower) for a work permit (specifically KITAS C-312)
Then the company that sponsors you needs to get approval for the RPTKA (Foreign Worker Placement Plan) from the Kemnaker (Ministry of Manpower) to be able to employ foreign workers.
When you arrive in Indonesia, you need to convert your approved VITAS into an electronic white card called KITAS in the local immigration office. It’s must be done in maximum 30 days after your arrival in Indonesia.
Finally, you need to send a report on expatriate remittances to the Kemnaker (Ministry of Manpower).
When the sponsor company handles the KITAS application manually, it must navigate complex regulations and follow detailed procedures.
This can often be time-consuming and confusing, especially without in-depth knowledge of the relevant rules.
Why not take the hassle-free route? Simply ask the sponsor company to utilize professional KITAS management services. We’ll ensure the process is simple, efficient, and hassle-free!
