What Are the Steps to Obtain a KITAS in Indonesia?
If you choose to apply for a KITAS manually without professional assistance, the following steps must be completed:
Submit a Recommendation to BKPM
The first step involves submitting a recommendation request to the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), tailored to the specific type of KITAS being applied for.
Apply to the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker)
For those applying for a Foreign Worker KITAS (C-312), a formal letter from the Ministry of Manpower is required to authorize employment for the prospective foreign worker (TKA).
Obtain RPTKA Approval
The sponsoring company must secure approval for the RPTKA (Foreign Worker Placement Plan) from the Ministry of Manpower, which serves as the legal basis for hiring foreign personnel.
Apply for a Limited Stay Visa (VITAS)
Once the RPTKA is approved, the applicant may proceed to apply for the appropriate Limited Stay Visa (VITAS) through the Directorate General of Immigration.
Convert VITAS to KITAS Upon Arrival
Upon arrival in Indonesia, the approved VITAS must be converted into an electronic residence permit card known as KITAS.
Submit Expatriate Remittance Report to Kemnaker
Finally, the applicant or sponsoring entity is required to submit a report regarding expatriate fund transfers to the Ministry of Manpower.
